“Dark Souls” through the prism of Camus’ absurdism

This is my first resarch paper, which was written during my two year of master Litterature, Knowledges and Digital Culture (LSCN) at the Universite Gustave Eiffel.

This essay start from the hypothesis that the video games licence “Dark Souls” may be considerated as a palimpsest (according to the definition given by Gérard Genette) of the absurd’s cycle. The latter gather three creations of the french author Albert Camus : The Stranger, Caligula and The Myth of Sisyphus. The “Dark Souls” games may then use the philosophical definition of “absurd” as theorized by Camus, through their narrations and gameplays.
